Gene I. Awakuni

Gene I. Awakuni joined University of Hawaii as chief executive of the West Oahu campus in March 2005. He previously served as vice provost for student affairs at Stanford University.  Before returning to Hawaii, Gene served as Vice President of Student Services at Columbia University. He also held various positions with Cal Poly Pomona, University of California, Santa Barbara and University of California, Irvine.  Gene earned his doctorate at Harvard.

One of the key roles that educational institutions fulfill is that of raising the intellectual capacity of the region.
